Hope in a Pumpkin Spice Latte

I have to laugh when I see the hype for a cup of coffee. For the Pumpkin Spice Latte - it's all seriousness. I know it's appearance is more than just a new flavor - especially this year. We love traditions - they bring order and sense to our lives and make things seem right and good. This year has been anything but normal and order has seemed to be on the fritz.

Melancholy - it's a thing

Many of us are feeling it these days - a sadness, a grieving and looking for a way to be joyful again. For some this may be depression - when it lasts long, is intense and you can't climb out of it - this needs professional attention. For others it's grief and feeling the loss of our former lives. We were hit with something we had no way to prepare for and have learned along the way what it means to be hanging on for dear life - every minute of every day.

Finding Courage

So many of us are looking for the strength, creativity and fortitude we need right now. It's been a bit like Dorothy's journey through Emerald Forest lately. We've been traveling a road that is new, a bit frightening at times and holds the promise of a place where things will be okay again and we'll find our way home.

Things are Looking Different

One of the things about a crisis is that we have to react somehow - indifferent, worried, scared, hopeful or anything in between. For many of us, the early months of being safe at home has stretched out into an unknown timeline or perhaps having to go back to work and worrying.
